My name is Yixuan Liu (刘亦璇). I study for my philosophy doctorate in Switzerland (Fribourg) and the Netherlands (Leiden). It’s like being a tired (and, sometimes, happy) vagrant. I built this website to understand how the world appears through what I do. Therefore, here, I’m collecting the things I’ve made and things I like a lot. Not everything; just some things. So, this website is a private and small experiment.
My research lies at the intersection of phenomenology, image theory, and aesthetics, with a particular focus on Maurice Merleau-Ponty. My doctoral project develops a phenomenological path from image experience toward an ontology of the image. My broader research brings Western philosophy and art history into dialogue with Chinese aesthetics and philosophy,with particular attention to questions of time.
